Larry Flanagan's trail. La ruta de Larry Flanagan.

Chestnuts, grapes, berries, figs, mushrooms, forests, spider webs, and a wonderful hiking trail. We discover the Pumpkins-Chestnuts Tree trail, accompanied by our photographic camera and by the clever detective Larry Flanagan, who is looking for clues for his new case.

Larry Flanagan had been assigned the most difficult case of his detective career.

He was about to prove that the Intelligence Agency had been spying the president of Autumnland.

To achieve this, the work he had to do was finding out the password for entering the Agency computer. It was the strangest code he had ever faced. A series of 10 coloured circles, with some clues:

Among chestnuts, grapes, berries, forests, figs, mushrooms, spider webs, hiking trails, autumn and Ibor, you must type the top 10 ones.

He opened his computer, and began to type all the words. He didn't know what to do with the clue 'the top 10 ones', so he began by writing the most common words.

First he wrote 'chestnut tree'. He got a lot of pictures with many trees full of chestnuts.

También había muchas fotos de castañas.
There were many pictures of chestnuts, too.

But he didn't find anything useful to solve the clue. So he continued writing the rest of the words on the searcher:

‘uvas’
‘uvas’

‘bayas’
‘berries’

‘bosque’
‘forest’

‘setas’
‘mushrooms’

‘telarañas’
‘spider webs’

‘higos’
‘figs’

‘otoño’
‘autumn’

y ‘senderismo’.
and ‘hiking’. At this time, he got plenty of hiking trails where he could find all fruits mentioned. The list of trails was endless.

He could only rule out those zones of the planet where there're no 4 seasons, but he still was lost

Finally, he should face the last and most enigmatic clue: IBOR. What can it mean? He made another find on internet, and he fount out that it was a toponimic name related to a river on Caceres province, in Extremadura (Spain), that gives its name to the county it goes throughout: the Ibores.

It seemed that at last Larry had found something solid to base his investigation on. All the fruits he had searched for grew up in that county, and there were many hiking trails in it. Some hours later, he decided to go to the Pumpkins-Chestnuts Tree trail, in Castañar de Ibor (Chestnut grove of Ibor).

He decided to go with his family, in order to not being under suspicion. Also, the trail was suitable for kids, it was a rural trail with no difficulties, and it was not very long: 7 km. back and forth.

In this route he had to find the sense for the phrase ‘the top 10 ones’, so he could pass through the code on the Agency website.

They started walking, and they began to discover all these fruits he had been searching for: mushrooms, figs, chestnuts, grapes, berries… All these clues confirmed Larry he was on the good way.

During the journey, he felt observed sometimes, but it may be all product of his imagination.

They arrived to the top of Postuero Hill, but they didn’t follow till the Pumpkins falls, nor to the ancient chestnuts tree, because it was too late.

They walked back to the village of Castañar de Ibor, and Larry hadn’t discovered anything about the clue. Suddenly, they found this tree with coloured balls. It was an arbuts, but he's an urban man and doesn’t recognize the various types of trees.

Then Larry Flanagan understood the meaning of ‘the top 10 ones’. He had to write down the colors of the 10 highest fruits of the tree, and introduce them on the code page.

When they finished the trail and came back home, Larry proved the combination of colors in the code access. He entered the central server of the Intelligence Agency, and saved all the files that demonstrate the spionage suffered by the president of Autumnland.

Once he delivered his report, he had a week vacation. It was a good opportunity to complete this wonderful hiking trail, and to see how the yellowish leaves began to cover the way.

This time he promised himself to carry his tree guide book, in order to recognize all the varied species that grow up beside the way. And he was sure that he will find more people at the hiking trail, because they’ve read his blog of photographic reports and have decided to visit it.

His blog didn’t have photos from the final stage of the route, but they can be taken easily from the next links: Memorias de un turista, Rutas por Extremadura, Wikiloc.

I hope you feel encouraged to enjoy this route! And if you find Flanagan, please give him regards from me!
