El Faro del Cabo de San Agustín está situado en la localidad de Ortiguera, perteneciente al concejo de Coaña (Asturias), en un cabo limitado al este por la playa de Arnielles, situada en la ría de Navia, y por el pequeño puerto de Ortiguera al oeste.
The Lighthouse of Cape San Agustín is located in the village of Ortiguera, which belongs to the council of Coaña (Asturias). This cape has limits on the east by Arnielles beach, located on the estuary of river Navia, and by the small port of Ortiguera on the west.
Inaugurado en 1975, es uno de los faros más modernos de la costa cantábrica. El faro tiene un alcance de 20 millas marinas, emitiendo 2 ocultaciones cada 12 segundos. Su referencia internacional es D-1634.
Inaugurated in 1975, this is one of the most modern lighthouses along the Cantabrian coast. The lighthouse has a range of 20 nautical miles, emitting two occultations every 12 seconds. His international reference is D-1634.
No está habitado, pues carece de vivienda anexa, sino que es asistido desde Tapia de Casariego. Asentado sobre una base circular en la que encontramos la sala de máquinas, presenta un diseño muy original, con una torre cilíndrica de 20 m. de altura sobre el terreno y 3 m. de diámetro, pintada con bandas horizontales blancas y negras.
It is inhabited, lacking attached housing, but it’s assisted from Tapia de Casariego. Seated on a circular base where we’ll find the engine room, the construction presents a very original design, with a cylindrical tower of 20 m. of height above ground and 3 m. in diameter, painted with black and white horizontal bands.
A su lado aún se conserva la antigua baliza de destellos, que se eleva unos 5,6 m. de altura sobre el terreno. Sobre su torre se encontraba una linterna de acetileno que se encendía de forma automática, y que alcanzaba unas 10 millas náuticas. Y también encontramos una campana de hierro fundido que servía de advertencia a los barcos en tiempos de niebla.
Beside it a old beacon of flashes is still preserved, which rises about 5.6 m. height above the ground. On its tower there was one acetylene torch that was lit automatically, and which reached about 10 nautical miles. And we can also find a cast iron bell that served as a warning to ships in foggy times.
Se ubica en un promontorio que se eleva 62 m. sobre el nivel del mar, en donde se reunían las mujeres para despedir a los barcos que salían a faenar. Este paraje comprende, además del faro que se asoma al acantilado, la bella y blanca Ermita de San Agustín, unos cuidados jardines, una caseta de prácticos y patrones, y diverso mobiliario urbano relacionado con la mar.
Located on a promontory that rises 62 m. above sea level, where women gathered to bid farewell to the ships go to sea, this place also comprises, in additon to the lighthouse that overlooks the cliff, the beautiful white chapel of San Agustín, neat gardens, a shed for pilots and masters, and diverse urban furniture related to the sea.
